Diana and Christopher’s choreography classes have been a lot of fun and a tremendous growth and learning experience for both seasoned performers and people relatively new to learning dance. Therefore, they are excited to offer a west coast swing choreography series. Here are the details:
You are welcome to either come for the whole series and learn the entire piece or drop in and learn a few moves each class.
No partner is necessary.
The entire piece will be a 3-minute classic west coast swing song with about 30 moves and embellishments.
The choreography will consist entirely of leadable moves that you can use on the social dance floor.
You will learn a ton about musicality including song structure, matching your moves and embellishments to phrasing and more.
We will focus on technique, especially constant connection and turning.
Our experience is that learning choreography is a great way to hone your technique and commit new material to muscle memory because of the repetition.
We will post a video of the entire piece and a choreography chart online that will be accessible to committed students.
There will likely be opportunities to do demonstrations at the end of the series if you are interested, but there is no pressure to demo.
You need to be able to do basic moves of west coast swing to take the class including the sugar push, underarm turn, tuck, spinning side pass, and whip.
We may offer a 3-hour introduction/review of west coast swing for students with intermediate experience in other dances such as tango or ballroom and for students who would like to brush up on their west coast swing before the series begins.
The cost is $16.25 per class if you pay for the whole series ($135 total up front). You can also pay for four classes for $75 (18.75 each), or $20 for a single 75-minute class.
