“Midsummer Night’s Tango”
Storyline
Where is the birthplace of tango? Acclaimed filmmaker Aki Kaurismäki controversially stated that it began in Finland and is seen as the national folk music there. Yet Argentina has something to say about that. In the bustling and noisy landscapes of Buenos Aires we meet three musicians who live and breather tango. Alongside their music we see how tango was formed within the culture of this city. After Argentina the musicians travel to Finland exploring the traditions and characteristics of the country’s musical style and investigating Kaurismäki’s claim.
Directed by Viviane Blumenschein, Germany/Argentina/Finland, 2013. Run time 84 mins
